"TAKE HEART--GETTING TO WHOLENESS"

You are invited to the Metro DC Synodical Women's Organization's annual convention where we will be examining depression and suicide prevention with the help of presenters from the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), who wiIl share their journeys with mental illness in an English session as well as a Spanish session. We will be uplifted by worshipping and celebrating the Eucharist together in a bilingual service, shopping our vendors and exhibitors, and enjoying fellowship.


KEYNOTE EVENT

In Our Own Voice, is a program of the National Alliance on Mental Illness. Providing insight into what it is like to live with mental illness, the presenters will share their personal stories, walking us through their experiences from the early onset of symptoms to how they are today. This presentation will be offered in English and in Spanish.


WORKSHOPS

NAMI NORTHERN VIRGINIA'S PARENT WORKSHOP

Grandparents, parents, and caregivers of school-age kids and teens are invited to explore mental health issues with a parent who has experienced caring for a child with mental illness. Hopeful stories will be shared. Information about local resources will be available. This workshop will be offered in English and in Spanish.

GOD, IMPROV, AND THE ART OF LIVING

Experience with author Rev. MaryAnn McKibben Dana how the principles of improvisation can guide us in our daily lives, when we are faced with detours and disappointments- when life doesn't go according to "the plan".

UPDATE: REFUGEE RESETTLEMENT

Linda Hartke, President and CEO of Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Services, will speak to the state of the Refugee Resettlement program in the current political climate. Information will be provided on how congregations and individuals can support the efforts of LIRS.

MASK OFF: UNDERSTANDING YOUR SPIRITUAL GIFTS AND WALKING IN YOUR PURPOSE

Sheena Foster, Board Member of the Metro DC Synodical Women's Organization, Women of the ELCA, will present this interactive workshop designed for women under 40.

IN KIND OFFERING

We will collect in-kind gifts of personal toiletries for Lutheran Social Services of the National Capital Area (LSS/NCA). The personal toiletries items to choose from are toilet paper, Kleenex (boxes), shampoo (regular size), conditioner (regular size), soap, deodorant, toothpaste (regular size), toothbrushes, brush/comb, aspirin, razors, and feminine hygiene products.

Driving/carpooling is the best option and St. Mark's has adequate parking. There is also a bus stop just in front of the church.
